Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Godly Emotion ("we," "us," or "our") is a spiritual grounding companion designed to help you process your emotions through Scripture, prayer, and reflection. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that information.
By downloading or using Godly Emotion, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information stored locally on your device
The vast majority of your data in Godly Emotion never leaves your device. The following is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party:
- Prayer journal entries — personal prayers and reflections you write.
- Saved verses and prayers — Scripture and guided prayers you save.
- Bible reading position — your current book, chapter, and any highlights or notes.
- First name — if you provide it during onboarding, it is stored locally for personalization only.
- Onboarding preferences — your selected aspiration, commitment, and covenant choices.
- App settings — preferred Bible translation, theme, dark mode, reader font size, and audio mute.
- Put God First configuration — the apps you select and preferences for the optional routine.
- Days With God counter — a local count of the days you have used the app.
- Notification preferences — your preferred reminder time.
We do not have access to this information. If you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently erased.
1.2 Anonymous analytics (Mixpanel)
We use Mixpanel to understand how the app is used in aggregate so we can improve it. Mixpanel data is not linked to your identity — we never send your name, email, or any content you write. It includes:
- An anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated ID used to distinguish devices for analytics. We do not send your name, email, or prayer content with it.
- Product interaction events — general usage such as which emotions are selected, which screens are viewed, and which features are used. These contain no personal information.
- Anonymous profile properties — non-identifying settings and choices such as your theme, dark mode, onboarding selections (aspiration and commitment), and whether optional features like Put God First and notifications are enabled, so we can understand what people find useful.
We do not require an account or email, we do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with data brokers. See Mixpanel's privacy policy.
1.3 Content generation services
Godly Emotion offers optional features that generate personalized spiritual content. These are the only features that send anything off your device:
- Emotion guidance (in your own words) — when you describe how you are feeling in your own words, that text is sent to our server to generate a tailored Scripture selection and prayer. (Choosing a built-in emotion uses content already stored in the app and sends nothing.)
- Bible study assistant — when you tap "Help me understand," the verse, surrounding passage, and your question are sent to generate an explanation.
- Quiet Moments — a daily theme is sent to generate a fresh devotional reflection.
How this works:
- Requests go to our secure server (hosted on Vercel), which forwards them to OpenAI's API to generate a response. API keys are kept server-side and are never included in the app.
- An anonymous device identifier (not linked to your identity) is included only to enforce rate limits that prevent abuse. It is short-lived and not used to identify you.
- We do not store, log, or retain the content of your inputs, conversations, or generated responses on our servers. Once a response is delivered to your device, our server discards the request and response.
- OpenAI may process and temporarily retain API inputs and outputs under its own policies, including for abuse monitoring (typically up to 30 days), and states that API data is not used to train its models by default. See OpenAI's API data usage policies.
1.4 Voice input
Godly Emotion offers optional voice input for composing personal prayers. Speech is converted to text using Apple's speech recognition technology where available; the recognized text stays on your device and is treated the same as typed input. We do not record, store, or transmit audio recordings to our servers. Any speech processing by Apple is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and your device's Speech Recognition settings.
1.5 Notifications
If you grant permission, Godly Emotion sends local notifications as gentle reminders. These are scheduled on your device, not sent from our servers, and you can disable them anytime in your device's Settings.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not require an account or email address.
- We do not collect your name, phone number, or physical address.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not collect health, fitness, or biometric data.
- We do not collect credit card numbers, banking information, or direct payment details. Purchases or subscriptions, if offered, are processed by Apple through the App Store.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, or browsing history.
- We do not display ads or use advertising SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data for advertising or marketing.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. How We Use Your Information
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Anonymous device ID (Mixpanel) | Analytics — understanding aggregate usage |
| Product interaction events (Mixpanel) | Analytics — improving features and experience |
| Your "own words" emotion text | Generating a personalized verse and prayer |
| Bible verse and your question | Generating a Bible study explanation |
| Anonymous device ID (our server) | Rate limiting to prevent abuse |
4. Data Retention
- Local data (journal, saved items, preferences): kept on your device until you delete the app.
- Analytics data (Mixpanel): retained per Mixpanel's retention policies.
- Content generation inputs and responses: not retained by us — our server discards them after the response is delivered. (OpenAI may retain them temporarily under its own policy; see section 1.3.)
- Rate-limit counts: short-lived and used only to prevent abuse; not tied to your identity.
5. Data Security
- Communication between the app and our server uses HTTPS encryption.
- API keys are kept server-side and are never exposed in the app.
- Local data is protected by your device's built-in security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).
6. Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Mixpanel | Anonymous usage analytics | mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| OpenAI (via our server) | Content generation | openai.com/policies/privacy-policy |
| Vercel | Server hosting | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Expo / EAS | App build and update infrastructure | expo.dev/privacy |
7. Children's Privacy
Godly Emotion is rated 9+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Choices
- Disable notifications: turn them off anytime in your device's Settings.
- Delete your data: uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored data. Because our analytics are anonymous, we generally cannot identify data tied to a specific person; if you'd like anonymous analytics associated with your device removed, contact us and we'll help.
- Avoid content generation: the emotion guidance, Bible study assistant, and Quiet Moments are optional. You can use the offline Bible reader, prayer journal, and saved items without anything being sent off your device.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to review it periodically.
